Low testosterone levels are caused due to many reasons. It
may be due to problem in hypothalamus or pituitary to produce appropriate
amounts of hormones that stimulates testosterone production. When the related
organs do not function properly, it results in low testosterone production.
Problem in testes and ovaries is also a big cause low
testosterone production. This problem is called hypogonadism in which testes do
not produce enough amounts of testosterone. When the problem is linked to the
pituitary and its ability to regulate testosterone, it is called secondary
hypogonadism.
Here are some of the possible low testosterone
Levels.
Undescended
testicles:
If the testes become unable to move around from inside the
abdomen into the scrotum during fetal development, the testes may become
damaged and produce inadequate amounts of testosterone.
Injury to the
scrotum:
If the testes are injured, they produce insufficient amounts
of testosterone.
Cancer therapy:
Chemotherapy and radiation therapy injure the interstitial
cells in the testes that affect testosterone production.
Aging:
Age is a big factor in low testosterone levels in the body.
Mumps orchitis:
The mumps virus may result in swelling of the testes in males
that can lead to low testosterone production.
Ovary conditions in
women:
Premature ovarian failure and surgical removal of both
ovaries are also the cause of low testosterone levels.
